NAMIC Philadelphia Members, Advisors, Sponsors and Supporters,
It’s hard to believe summer is over and fall has arrived. For NAMIC Philadelphia it’s been a year of firsts and steadfast favorites. This year we held our first LGBT Mixer in June celebrating LGBT Pride Month. This event took an ever bigger meaning with the landmark ruling upholding same-sex marriage by the US Supreme Court taking place just a few days after our event. We also held our first joint event of the year, a wonderful Speaker Series with the Philadelphia Chapter of WICT. In addition, the chapter has been able to execute on our staple events like our 5th Annual Executive Speed Mentoringevent which welcomed dozens of mentors and mentees and our LinkedIn Workout Part II a follow up to last year’s inaugural event which expanded on all the networking tools and capabilities to build your professional brand and maximize LinkedIn Publisher to make an impact in your network.
Looking back at what our Chapter has accomplished so far this year, I have a deep sense of pride. My vision was to continue positioning NAMIC Philadelphia as the premier industry organization for communications companies in the metropolitan area with the theme “You Want to be In”. Be “in” the premier organization that educates, advocates and empowers for multi-ethnic diversity in the communications industry. The team has been able to execute on this theme through a complete team effort and I’m very proud of the engaging content and events we’ve organized in celebration of NAMIC’s 35th year anniversary.
Today I take some time to provide an update on how we’ve done so far with our top goals:
Grow the powerful and authentic NAMIC Philly brand:
- I’m happy to announce our membership has increased nearly 30%.
- Our active contacts list has grown 15% since the beginning of the year.
- In addition, we’ve seen strong member engagement with 45% of our event guests attending 2 or more events vs. 35% last year.
By increasing our membership base, maintaining strong event participation, increasing of our constant contact list we can increase awareness of the chapter with all target stakeholders.
Increase Student Membership and Engagement.
- We continue to work with student organizations and local universities to promote the value obtained from NAMIC for students entering on interested in the industry.
- I had the pleasure to participate in a career event this year at Pierce College and partnered with the Unidos ERG to highlight the diversity efforts within Comcast to the Latin American Student Organization (LASO) in Villanova University.
We have further work to do in this area but as we look ahead in order to grow the organization it’s critical to continue to expand our outreach efforts with the future leaders that are entering our industry.
Increase the Chapter’s Social Media Presence.
- We’ve also made great progress in this area by tripling our Twitter followers since our new handle was launched at the beginning of the year.
- We’ve also increased our Facebook followers nearly 60% since the beginning of the year.
The chapter will continue to leverage social media as it provides an effective tool to not only interact with our existing members but reach new members in the industry.
I’d like to extend a thank you to our sponsors through your continued support of NAMIC Philadelphia we can continue shaping critical thinkers, advancing careers and empowering individuals. Your support has allowed us to engage, educate and empower our members and support their personal and professional development with a slate of events including Black History Month, LinkedIn Workout Part II, LGBT Mixer event, 5th Annual Executive Speed Mentoring and our Speaker Series.
In closing, my first year as Chapter President has been equal parts exciting and rewarding. As the year closes I look forward to a strong fourth quarter for NAMIC Philadelphia. As I look back at the successes to date I can honestly say it’s a direct result of the efforts of the chapter leadership team, the committee members, volunteers and the support of our sponsors and chapter advisors. The team’s dedication is second to none and I’m very proud to be part of a top notch team that makes great things happen every day.
I hope to see you at the National NAMIC Conference in New York and don’t forget we still have great things to come including Hispanic Heritage Month and our amazing 12th Annual Paragon Awards.
