2017 NAMIC Membership Meeting

The National Association for Multi-Ethnicity in Communications (NAMIC) Philadelphia Chapter hosted their Membership Meeting Event on March 23, 2017.  Attendees spent the first 30 minutes of the event networking and enjoying hors d’oeuvres and the special drink for the evening, the NAMICtini.

The speaking portion of the event was kicked off by current President, Mia Beasley-Bonds who spoke about her years of involvement with NAMIC.  She spoke of how a colleague telling her she need to join NAMIC turned into attending and volunteering for events that then turned into being part of the NAMIC leadership team and obtaining the presidency.  She encouraged all the attendees get involved with NAMIC and share their enthusiasm for this organization with friends and co-workers.

Mia also acknowledged and thanked the immediate NAMIC Philadelphia Past President, Angel Arocho and NAMIC Philadelphia Advisor, Michael Clancy who both were in attendance.

Mia then introduced Darryl Jackson, Manager for Mentoring Relations and Chapter Operations for NAMIC National.  Darryl was the featured speaker of the night and gave an overview of NAMIC Inc.  He spoke of NAMIC’s mission “…to educate, advocate and empower for multi-ethnic diversity in the media and entertainment industry.”   Darryl reviewed the many programs and events the national organization develops to support that mission and provide benefits to its members.  He spoke in depth about the L. Patrick Mellon Mentorship Program.   It is a free virtual mentorship program that is an important tool for members to meet and be advised by leaders in the communications industry.  In addition, he indicated NAMIC is always looking for leaders to be mentors for that program.

Dwayne Bien-Aime, current Vice President, was the closing speaker.  Dwayne got the crowd buzzing as he unveiled the exciting plans we have coming up this year.   He introduced this year’s officers and committee leads.  He also gave special thanks to NAMIC Philadelphia Advisor, Amira Smith, for her support of NAMIC Philadelphia.
At the end of the evening, wonderful prizes were raffled off for attending this event and completing the membership survey.
