NAMIC Women and Retirement: Evaluating Your Financial Wellness Event Recap
The National Association for Multi-Ethnicity in Communications (NAMIC) Philadelphia Chapter hosted their first Financial Series of the year on May 11th. Women and Retirement: Evaluating Your Financial Wellness was hosted by NAMIC’s partner, 1847Financial. We had a great turnout for the event with a packed room full of women and a few men.
Current Vice President, Dwayne Bien-Aime kicked the event off by thanking everyone for attending and introducing the guest speaker, Allison Pettine with 1847Financial. For over 3 years, NAMIC and 1847Financial have been working together and they have presented on a variety of topics.
Allison started off her presentation by talking about how everyone is planning for retirement and we are all on this journey together. The importance of this presentation was the fact that women are typically caregivers to their children and parents. Women also tend to have less personal savings, less monthly retirement benefits and longer life expectancies.
Other topics that were talked about included the differences between short term, midterm and long term savings and term vs permanent life insurance. Allison urged the group to take advantage of the percentage that your company matches for the 401k and most importantly, be in control of your money.
